tokidoki means “sometimes” in Japanese.
I chose a Japanese word because I love Japan. I love everything from the ultra-modern happy face is Shibuya to the serious magic silence of Kyoto. I chose “sometimes” because everyone waits for moments that change one’s destiny. By simple chance or meeting a new person, tokidoki is the hope, the hidden energy everyone has inside that give us the strength to face a new day and dream something positive, that something magical will happen to us.

While Alex and Theo were initially traveling abroad in Australia and then through New Zealand, they quickly fell in love with the lands. The brothers noticed a limited range of wines available during a chance visit to a local wine shop, with most bottles from the warmer North Island. Alex and Theo agreed the cooler climate of the South Island would be an ideal place to grow certain wines like Riesling, a popular German varietal. This was the catalyst to purchase their first land, in Burnham on the outskirts of Christchurch.
Today, we’re proud to have operations throughout the Marlborough region. Our company is built on the brothers’ shared passion and family values – every member of the Giesen Wines team works together on building up and maintaining the reputation of the Giesen name worldwide.
tokidoki Sauvignon Blanc 2017 is a blend of 50 Giesen chosen vineyards, spaced across the length and breadth of Marlborough’s Awatere and Wairau Valleys. The soils range free draining alluvial/silt to clay loams. Having such a range of vineyards offers a wide selection of maturity parameters in terms of sugar and acid profile, but also a huge aroma and flavor spectrum. Our philosophy is to crop vines in balance with each site optimizing the vines ability to ripen fruit evenly and consistently to produce wine that reflects the true terroir of each site. We feel this is a true representation of the classic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. Winemaker: Andrew Blake

Food Match: Our winemakers suggest pairing the 2017 tokidoki Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc with fresh shellfish such as mussels or clams, steamed in simple tomato, garlic and fresh herb broth with a touch of chilli.
Nose: Kaffir lime, elderflower, herbaceous, crushed nettle, dried herb, jalapeno pepper.
Palate: Dried herb, citrus (lemon/line), jalapeno pepper, crisp, dry, clan palate, juicy acidity, fruit weight balance/mid palate succulence, lingering/persistent mouthfeel.
